The material provides artistic freedom of design and styling home to go with the ease of maintaining and crafting various Indian design-focused corners and at the same time can be used to curate those industrial and exposed wall ideas that are so easy to create and so versatile to style with both sub modern decor and the ethnic traditional as well.

I personally love to use bricks and terracotta figurines and paint with simple ideas for the simple reason that we keep shifting base and have not yet found a more permanent base to firm up on the design. So, in the meantime, what helps is simple easy decor pieces that can be easily assembled as well as moved to create and recreate corners of my humble abode.

Some say the trend of using bricks and modern terracotta designs is influenced by the zen simplicity of traditional Japanese gardens and interiors and the clean aesthetics of Scandinavian design. However, the earthy look of clay has always been part of Indian home styling

Terracotta is weather and age proof. They are resilient pieces of home decor, and sometimes mere aging gives them the status that they deserve of being timeless.

They do not require painting, coating, or varnishing in order to maintain their aesthetics and durability, unlike other decor materials.

The terracotta is resistant to sunlight, maintaining its color unchanged over the years, even in places of great exposure. It is resistant to shock and temperature changes. Terracotta is a clay-based product that received more significance from sculpture-making in ancient times. It is a vital part of our rich cultural heritage that it became a practical application in the modern-day scenario.

Some other interesting ways to use this versatile teracotta in your home

  • Incorporate terracotta tiles into your kitchen or bathroom for a timeless Mediterranean look.
  • Add pops of terracotta with throw pillows, curtains, or rugs to infuse your living room or bedroom with warmth.
  • Accentuate your entryway with terracotta planters lining the steps or a terracotta door wreath for a welcoming first impression.

A little bonus from Girlwho for my fellow terracotta lovers…

As the temperatures drop and the winter season approaches, it’s important to take extra care of your terracotta planters and pots.

Terracotta is a porous material, meaning it can absorb water. When water freezes, it expands, which can cause terracotta pots to crack. Here are a few tips on how to maintain terracotta in winters:

  • Bring terracotta pots indoors: If possible, bring your terracotta pots indoors for the winter. This will help to protect them from the freezing temperatures and prevent them from cracking.
  • If you can’t bring them indoors, wrap them: If you can’t bring your terracotta pots indoors, wrap them in bubble wrap or newspaper to insulate them from the cold.
  • Water sparingly: Don’t water your terracotta pots as often in the winter as you do in the summer. The soil will dry out more slowly in the winter, so you don’t need to water them as frequently.
  • Use a porous potting mix: Use a porous potting mix that will allow water to drain freely from the pot. This will help to prevent the soil from becoming waterlogged and freezing.
  • Elevate your pots: Elevate your terracotta pots off the ground using pot feet or bricks. This will help to prevent them from sitting in water and freezing.

By following these tips, you can help to protect your terracotta pots from the harsh winter weather and keep them looking their best for years to come.
